A selection of food in Da Nang, because somehow I’m there quite a bit lately:

  • Breakfast edition: Bánh mì Lạng Sơn (best commute breakfast award -the baguette is basted in soy sauce and grilled on the spot); Bánh bèo Quảng; Bún chả cá (fishcake noodle soup); Char siu dry noodles.
  • Thai family dinner at my colleague’s house: som tam (green papaya salad), Thai fishcake, tom yum goong (hot & sour soup with prawns), steamed tofu, stir-fried broccoli, and blue rice (!! dyed with Thai blue pea flowers). My friend said she was being considerate of the guests re: the spice level, but I told her it’s not Thai food until you have to take a breather every 10 minutes to stop crying.
  • Chè chuối (grilled banana in coconut milk soup) in a rainy evening
  • Best burger ever at Burger Bro’sand of course it’s run by a Japanese.
  • Soy & Dijon-glazed salmon with charred napa cabbage & oyster mushroom at Waterfront for our team’s year-end celebration dinner. Good flavours but fish still slightly overdone. Then again there was too much wine and liquor for anyone to really remember the food.

Fascinating edge of Danang
